All things come to an End
-------------------------

As most of you are aware, I will be moving to Boston, MA at the end of the
month following the sectional conference. I must say it has been a great
priviledge working with the chapters. Ive seen the best of all the
chapters and will never forget the memories you have all given me.
As a result, at the Section 89 meeting at St. Bonneventure 88/89 Sectional
Conference, a new Section 89 Chair will be elected. Im sure the chapters
will make a sound decision and elect a great new Chair. I hope the
experiences you give the new Chair are as great as the ones you gave me.
If you want to contact me after the conference I will be at:
                        520 Main Street #1303
                        Malden, MA 02148
                        (781)388-0142 gates@localnet.com (for now)

Are you getting ready?
----------------------

You might not realize it yet, but the National Convention is right
around the corner. Ok... its more than a few months away, but NOW is the
time to start thinking and planning.
Fundraising is the issue you should be starting with right now.
Before you know it the conference will be upon you and Brothers are faced
with the whole bill. Planning now can help pay for the plane, hotel,
registration, banquets, or all of the above!! One idea is bottle/can
collecting. Its amazing how much can be made by running through your
dorms on Sunday morning and getting all the empties from the night before
(granted it is a bit disgusting, but hey). Or, dedicate one fundraiser a
month until Nationals and place that money in a seperate conference
account. Of course, the more Brothers going (and if more things are paid
for, more will go) the more fundraising you will have to do.
Good luck and I hope to have 100% representation at Nationals this
year.

What does that Mean??
--------------------- by Edward Palazzolo

Hello Brothers! I hope you all had a great break. In the
interest of our Section Chair's theme for this year, "Chapter Care", I
wanted to address the issue of acronyms in our chapters. Below is a short
list of the ones that I know of, but I am sure that there are some
more that individual chapters might have. Please have one person
from each chapter (Corresponding Secretary) mail me the
translations of the following acronyms and add to my list if they have
any. The translations will be published in our next Sec 89 Newsletter.

AAMD LDW COW SLeD
CPPC SRW Eboard APONED
CPW BSA T&T DSK

Unfortunate business...
-----------------------

Unfortunately, circumstances arise when we have to do things wed
rather not do. In such a case, due to unprofessional conduct and
irreconcilable differences I have had to remove Jennifer Heberle from
Section 89 Staff.

Bylaws...
--------------

Here are a few common errors that have been found in the bylaws of
several chapters:

Voting. Alumni and advisors never have voting priviledges in the
chapter. The only exception to this rule is the CAC who may have a vote
depending on how the National Bylaws are interpreted. Most of us feel the
CAC should not have a vote, but it can be construed that it does.
Hopefully someone will amend the National Bylaws to fix this.
Types of Membership. Many chapters like to make up their own
types of memberships. The most common is inactive membership or
probationary membership. These types of memberships simply do not exeist
and shouldnt be in your bylaws. When a brother is no longer an active
brother (s)he is either an associate member or alumni member.
If you need any help with your bylaws or would like them reviewed
please send them our way.
