I don't understand why there would be competition among a V.P. of Membership
and a Pledge Trainer. At our chapter those are two different things.
Our VP basically deals with all events that are not service oriented (ie.
interview socials, picnics, formals, hayrides, Big/Little events, etc).
Pledges go to these events, but these are still membership events. The
Pledge Trainer deals with all activities pertaining to the pledge period.
The Pledge Trainer makes sure that the Pledge meetings run smoothly, the the
Pledge officers know and do their jobs, and that the pledges are aware of
our traditions and principles.
The Pledge VP of Membership takes all motions for pledge membership events
to the Membership Committee or the VP of Membership, and then those events
are voted on at chapter.
As for Exec Meetings, they are useful because all the officers know what
each is doing. Whenever one needs a suggestion or help, we can brainstorm.
This is especially useful b/c through Exec you get a good idea of what the
chapter wants. If it gets shot down at Exec, although you still have the
option of taking it to chapter, you know what will be controversial. We
also have a few officer retreats during the semester so that we get to
either know each other better, work on special topics, or just chill out
without having to deal with any business.
