I want to echo this response. No doubt a lot of things are said at one
time or another that are insensitive, rude, or just plain wrong. It is
not right when these things happen. But we must not generalize the
actions of a few to an entire group. Just because a brother from an
all-male chapter makes a remark like this, we should not assume that every
member of his chapter, let alone every member of every all-male chapter,
shares his viewpoint or insensitivity.
Whether we agree or not, our all-male chapters have a right to remain all
male. I also want to add that, just like all of our chapters, they are an
important part of Alpha Phi Omega. They provide leadership, friendship
and service just like everyone else.
So, if there are issues that must be discussed, let's discuss them. But
let's start from the proposition that we all have the best interests of
Alpha Phi Omega at heart and that we all seek solutions. That way our
differences will be enriching and not divisive.
Remember that, if we all thought alike and agreed on every issue, all but
one of us would be uneccesary. I don't think that's what we need in this
country or in this Fraternity. Thanks for listening.
