Brothers,
It is odd that you should bring this up, as we are facing this
question right now (and have before two years ago). As an all-male
chapter, we do not accept female transfers because they do not meet the
requirements for active membership at Delta. We do, however, encourage
them to participate in our fellowships and projects, come to our chapter
meetings, etc. They are welcome and we make every effort to involve them
in our activities.
This is not to say that we automatically accept male members just
because of their sex either. Delta screens all transfers very
thouroughly. When you join our chapter, you join first and foremost a
family, and we want to be sure that anyone transfering in has the same
respect and commitment to that family, as well as a proper understanding
of and commitment to the ideals of A PHI O that we instill in all of our
brothers. That may sound insensitive, but not all chapters place the same
emphasis on brotherhood and fraternity principles as Delta does. After
all, any brother we admit will ultimately be responsible for teaching our
pledges our chapter's traditions and belief system. With this in mind we
feel it necessary to be selective (In the six years I've been around the
chapter, we've only accepted one transfer brother out of about ten
potentials).
