Greetings everyone,
Just for the record, I still AM an Eagle Scout, and I am very
proud of it. I am also still very proud of the BSA, and I'm
happy to have been a part of it. But, I am no longer a member of
that youth organization, nor am I currently serving as an adult
leader. So, I WAS a member of the BSA, but I AM an Eagle Scout.
Please try not to take my statements out of context. I think you
all know what I meant.
As for the BSA amendments, I still think they're good for APO and
the BSA. APO and the BSA are 2 seperate organizations that need
to operate seperately. That does not stop us from still
interacting and sharing a common history.
I don't think anyone is trying to deny our heritage, or re-write
our history, or sever all ties with other organizations. I
think, all that's trying to be done is smooth the legal relations
between APO and the BSA. BSA differs from APO in it's membership
requirements. BSA is for youth, and APO is for undergraduate
college students and volunteers.
I think we can effectively remove the mentioning of BSA from our
Bylaws as requirements and rules We can, instead, encourage
involvement with the BSA (and others) and develop a healthy
program of volunteerism with them (as opposed to required
volunteerism with them).
There's just something about a requirement that leaves a sour
taste in my mouth. It should be an option...a healthy option.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Gagliardi
