i did some searching of old tech articles and read that in
the mid 1990's urop funding got cut but now in the the mid 2000's
the urop office budget is well over $1 million. however,
"...Faculty members fund about 73 percent of paid UROPs.
In the 2000-2001 school year, approximately $5.5 million in
faculty and department funds were allocated to support student
research." so given the announced cuts, is it not likely
faculty funded urop projects will face cuts too?

Julie Norman, the Director of the Academic Resource Center (the people who
run the UROP program) actually came to speak at the UA senate meeting last
night.
She directly addressed the issue, stating that there were in fact NO cuts
to the UROP program funding.
UROP will be as financially strong now as it has been in years past.
