Hey Guys,

I just wanted to take a quick opportunity to encourage you to run for Senate from your dormitory. It's a great way for you to get exposed to some of the inner workings of the Institute and have the opportunity to affect change on a wide set of issues. To represent your dorm you have to run in the upcoming elections (which you can get information about at web.mit.edu/ua/elections/Fall05/). This Thursday (9/22) is the deadline for entering the elections as an official candidate and requires the submission of a (newly simplified) registration form. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to contact me or the UA Elections Commission (ua-elect@mit.edu).

If running for office isn't your thing, there is an opportunity to be an active member on any of our 11 Committees, Subcommittees, Commissions, and Boards.  If you go to the UA website (web.mit.edu/ua/www/) and hover over "Our Committees", you can see them. If you have any more specific questions about committee membership/leadership, please don't hesitate to get back to me.

If you're a frosh: Definitely still give serious consideration to running for Senate... last year approximately a third of Senate were frosh and they all were outstanding representatives and made meaningful contributions to achieving our goals.

-Andrew Lukmann
UA Senate Speaker
