Hello, from the mit-talk management (talk-request@mit.edu).

I've turned on emergency moderation of the list, to avoid
a slew of responses to this.

Attempts to find housing, or sell items are not appropriate on
mit-talk. This is a discussion forum for talking about issues and
happenings at, around, and pertaining to MIT. It is not where you find
a roommate or issue personal requests or look for a new cat (try
reuse-housing, reuse-ask, and dc-pets, respectively).

Please don't send these kinds of emails in the future, or
reply to them.

(The intention is to not moderate the list. It became quite
problematic with the old MIT-talk. But nonetheless, I do want to
firmly and carefully nip this sort of thing in the bud.)

While I'm here: Last week Richard mentioned the mit-news
list. Realistically, it's effectively a dead list. It's still managed
by baroque the MITVMA listserv interface, and effectively gets no
traffic. I'm not convinced it is worth the effort to bring it up to
date. More news traffic on mit-talk is probably acceptable, and if it
crosses a reasonable threshold, then we can think about how best to
split it off in a useful way.

I'll turn off emergency moderation on Wednesday.
