s and a half dozen aircraft
were battling the blaze. The fire was also burning toward the Hetch Hetchy
reservoir, where San Francisco gets 85 percent of its water, and power
for municipal buildings, the international airport and San Francisco General
Hospital. Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency because of the
threats.Officials with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission were
running continuous tests on water quality in the reservoir that is the
source of the city's famously pure water.Deputy General Manager Michael
Carlin said that no problems from falling ash have been detected."We've
had other fires in the watershed and have procedures in place," he
said. The commission also shut two hydro-electric stations fed by water from
the reservoir and cut power to more than 12 miles of lines.
The city has been buying power on the open market.

Court in Norfolk, Va. A federal jury convicted the former sailor of

Virginian-Pilot, Steve Earley)A federal jury has convicted a former sailor
of attempted espionage.Retired Petty Officer 1st Class Robert Hoffman faces
the possibility of life in prison when he's sentenced in December. Hoffman
was convicted in a Norfolk courtroom on Wednesday.Prosecutors said Hoffman
gave classified information about tracking ships to what he believed were
Russian spies.Hoffman spent much of his 20-year Navy career on submarines.
After a trip to Eastern Europe in 2011, the FBI sent Hoffman
a letter purporting to be from Russian intelligence officers asking him
to provide "technical expertise." Hoffman made three drops in all, including
one in which he provided information about how to track American submarines.Hoffman
then approached the FBI in Norfolk and gave agents a diary and
other evidence.

<p style="font-size:xx-small;">A 72-year-old former employee of a Florida trucking company went on a
shooting spree Saturday, attacking former co-workers and his ex-boss, killing
two and wounding two more before killing himself, authorities say.Hubert
Allen Jr shot the men at several locations in and near the
North Florida community of Lake Butler, according to a Union County Sheriff's
Office news release.Authorities said Allen shot and killed former co-worker
Rolando Gonzalez-Delgado, 28, around 9 a.m. According to MyFoxOrlando.com,
he then headed to the company owner's farm, where he shot and
killed a farmhand and the owner, Marvin Pritchett.A few minutes later, he
pulled over where another former co-worker was driving a farm tractor, exchanged
words with him and then fired one shot from a shotgun, authorities
said. That victim, 66-year-old Lewis Mabrey Jr., was in good condition and
receiving surgery for a broken arm and other injuries. Not long after that,
Allen went to the company's headquarters and shot 44-year-old David Griffis
in the stomach, the release said. Griffis was in critical condition.Authorities
say Allen then returned to his Lake Butler home and killed himself.
He was described as a longtime employee of the trucking company.Investigators
were working at the five shooting scenes late Saturday and interviewing
witnesses and company employees. The news release said they were working
to determine a motive. The trucking company's website says it employs 400
http://www.facebook.com/denver.booneIs a cartoon-like college mascot reminiscent
of Daniel Boone -- right down to the legendary coonskin cap --
racist, sexist or otherwise offensive?Officials at the University of Denver
seem to think so. Theyve announced they wont reinstate Denver Boone, who
was retired in 1998 as mascot for the UD Pioneers, despite calls
to bring him back.Boone originally had been replaced by a red-tailed hawk
named Ruckus but the bird never soared high with the student body
and was scrapped in 2007, leaving the school without a mascot. Fast
forward and the school decided to put together a committee last spring
to determine the new mascot, but Boone was not even considered.Boone was
a polarizing figure that did not reflect the growing diversity of the
UD community, but rather was an image that many women, persons of
color, international students and faculty members found difficult to relate
to as defining the pioneering spirit, Chancellor Robert Coombe said in a
March letter to the school community.University officials also claim that
Boone was not up for consideration because of a consensus by the
student body that it wanted an entirely new mascot despite numerous
Facebook postings to the contrary. It was really about moving forward, Theresa
Mueller, a spokeswoman for the University of Denver, told FoxNews.com. The
students wanted a new mascot and didnt want to look towards the
past.Mueller added that they intend togi
