I got it to compile OK under Solaris 7 - check your DNS and resolver config.
Are you using NIS or DNS as the naming service (use the latter if possible).
Also, check for a /etc/hosts entry that's unqualified.

has anybody compiled Kerberos 1.2.2 under Solaris 8 ?
The install guide says that solaris 2.0-2.3 has a broken gethostbyname()
and that it has been fixed in 2.4 et above.
However I get
# /configure --with-cc=gcc --enable-shared
# gmake 2>&1 1>& make.log &
# gmake check
....
