Someone willing to bang their head against the code could make it
work, but calling it "unsupported" is probably best for now.

Not quite that bad. It's one of those compilers which says "ANSI
means only ANSI" and then doesn't define stuff like O_NDELAY without
additional #defines. There don't seem to be a lot of them (Mark was
actually doing the builds, I'm going by his zephyrs), but enough to
cause a few things to break. Mark can say more.
