What pays better than lobbying for the government's FBI-friendly
Clipper Chip and key escrow? Switching sides. Next month Andrew
Fois, 39, a top Justice Department official, will become a
partner at the cyber-savvy Venable, Baetjer, Howard &
Civiletti law firm. Fois told The Netly News he hopes to continue
lobbying Congress on crypto -- this time, on behalf of industry. "I'd
really look forward to an opportunity to help broker a solution," he
says somewhat disingenuously, "between industry, the Hill and the
government." As the assistant attorney general for legislative
affairs, Fois earns $114,800 a year -- and is on track to make two to
three times that in his new job. A useful coincidence: His wife, Sonia
Fois, is a partner at the Washington, D.C., law firm organizing
Americans for Computer Privacy
