Latham's ppdd encrypted file system?

We are considering its use for vulnerable laptop computers,
as it appears that it might provide a faster and more
straightforward alternative to our usual cfs.
Its core is an assembly-coded Blowfish implementation, which
seems to have been done correctly, but I've seen no
discussion of ppdd's relative merits.
