Las Vegas may be an exception in the sense that it doesn't really have a
'season' the way most destinations around the country do. However, the
biggest obstacle to the Las Vegas bid was the lack of any local chapter
support. Even Florida is cheaper in winter than summer.

The average number of people in a room is somewhere in the neighborhood
of 3 not 4+.
We have been getting a $40 a night hotel rate for over 14 yrs now while
in general the rates at convention hotels have doubled. Certainly in
Boston the convention rate for any other week of the year would have been
$80 or more. A convention that filled the Park Plaza Hotel two weeks
after we were there was paying $83 for a single, more for more people.
In addition to deep discounts on room-nights, we also get function space
discounts/reductions/even free that would cost bucks at other times of
year even with the number of people we bring it so in addition to the
increase in hotel costs, you'd have higher registration costs.

Generally true, but it depends on what the end points are -- for example
Boston<->Florida tends to be cheaper in winter. However, there is one
thing that definitely makes air travel easier in the summer -- More
flights available at the cheap fares since you won't be in a 'holiday
blackout' period.

Yes, but we're getting those rates because of the time of year we're
having the conference.
>Summer travel is much safer.
True.
