One way of enforcing the "Pledge Pin" rule that Phi Gamma (Texas Lutheran
College, Seguin, Texas - Home to the Worlds Largest Pecan) used was "drinks"
At the end of pledge season, on the night of activation, a party was thrown
at the Varsity Inn (VI) to welcome new members. If an active caught you
without your pledge pin, you owed that active a "drink" at the party. If
you caught an active without their pin, they owed you a drink. These drinks
varied from pop, tea, to other, more, intoxicating beveradges, depending on
the feelings of the pledge and active involved. (We got our pledge leader
really drunk, but he deserved it) This was fun, and not really manditory.
If you couldn't afford it, it was no problem.
It was not hazing, it was good clean fun. It was also 1985.
