I did some research on this about 9 months ago at the request of my
Regional Director and my Regional Extension chair. the Region had an
extension effort at a school that didn't have social greeks and had an
administration who wanted to know if we were on any campuses without
social greeks. I wasn't able to check for locals, but I was able to
compile a list of schools with active APO chapters and no National Social
Fraternitities or Sororities.
I don't have the list of schools handy, but I do remember certain things
about the list.
1) There were about 60 schools on the list. This is about 18-20% of the
schools with active chapters of APO.
2) There were 5 public schools on the list. These included Maine
Maritime, University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez and Central Washington U.
(The first two made sense to me, the third didn't; I don't remember the
other two)
3) Catholic Schools where very highly represented in the list, including
two in my section.
4) Not all of them may have been a hostile administration. Alpha Phi
Omega is willing to extend to certain schools that Social Fraternities
would not even be willing to consider. These include both community
colleges and schools with fewer than 1500 students. The fact that our
extension efforts can take in the entire school rather than limiting to
one gender (and not considering grad students) gives a wider universe of
possibilities.
I'm trying to see if either my RD or REC saved a copy...
