At the Delta Sigma chapter at the University of Connecticut meeting
times have varied widely over the years.
I entered the chapter in the fall of '87. Brotherhood meetings
(1x/wk - Tues) were long - 3 hours: 6:30pm - 8:30pm minimum. The
election meeting went til midnight.
By my junior year meeting were down to 1.5 hrs per week - but the
active # decreased dramatically.
In my 5th year I was president and I presided over the longest
regualr meeting in memory. We typically didn't get out until 10:30+.
I'm not touting long meeting - but there was a lot of non
traditional stuff going on and things needed to be delt with. My
active chapter was 55+\- and we didn't often loose more than 1 or 2
people because of the time commitment.
Things have returned to nornal over the past 5 years. meeting at
UCONN are usually around 2 hours per week.
Ex. Board used to be held 1x/wk on Sundays. Its now every other
week. Usually takes about an hour.
A personal opinion: Length of the meeting is not important. What
you manage to get done in your time is. And Brothers need to be
willing to address important issues and clear them up, no matter how
long it takes. Most important - use your time wisely. Repeating
statements or feels just wastes time, but Brothers should feel
they're not inconviencing the group by voicing an opinion.
