Some of you want to know what to do when an officer (tries to)
resign his/her post.

The answer is, if he/she submits a resignation it has to be
either accepted or rejected. If it is accepted, obviously the
majority agrees with the resignation, and that person can go
about his/her business freely. If the resignation is rejected,
however, that person must be obligated to continue in that office
-- Afterall, that person takes an oath (most likely) and agrees
to uphold the office to the best of his/her abilities. If the
resignation is rejected, and that person resigns anyway, well
there you have a problem that requires enforcement of a rule.
Since the officer is probably an Active Brother, you can punish
that person by giving him/her Inactive membership on the grounds
of "dereliction of duty."

For example, if person X is elected to office, and person X
agrees to take that office, X is obligated to continue until the
planned termination of that term. If X has other, more pressing
obligations, the chapter's Active membership can agree to let X
resign. If X just gives a lame excuse (like "I just don't want
to do it anymore"), well...the membership can disagree with that
& tell X to finish the term or face inactive membership. If X
becomes inactive all on his/her own, X is punishing himself.

What you want is to elect people who will serve out their term in
office successfully (right?), and to encourage them to complete
their term. In order to discourage resignations and dereliction
of duty, simply make it known that if they abandon their posts,
they will be punished.

This has been my $0.02 worth!
